Football News: Wenger Arsene Wenger believes it will be a disgrace if Arsenal fail to win the Premier League this season.

It has been six long years for Wenger since he last laid hands on the Premier League trophy back in 2004.

But Wenger, who recently signed a new three-year deal to keep him at the Emirates till 2014, admitted there are no more excuses for not delivering success after years of hiding behind Manchester United and Chelsea's financial powers.

"Man City invested £100million and we invested £8m. Yet if we do not win it, then people ask questions," he was quoted as saying in the News of the World.

"It is right because if we don't win the championship, I think it's an absolute disgrace.

"It is time for us. I believe we have done well to stay in the top four in recent years but now is a time we want to deliver.

"I always consider a season make or break but maybe this one is more than ever.

"Would you like to finish 10th in the league and say you won the League Cup? No. So, for me, that deadline is this season.

"The target is always to get the maximum out of the team. Last year we were not far off, there was no shame.

"I have shown my commitment to this club but if they are not happy with me I will not stay for long, don't worry."

The 60-year-old has always insisted on the club's philosophy of developing young talents rather than splashing millions of dollars in the transfer market.

But he has now admitted that may change if the ultimate goal of winning trophies is not achieved.

"In the last four or five years, we have brought up a young team. Because of that, we want to be more of a team than the others and also win trophies now.

"If this policy does not deliver, then I would say we have to change it. And, for me, a trophy means the championship or the Champions League."

And even if Wenger does make the uncharacteristic switch, he believes it will not be easy to get the players he wants.

"In Germany, they are in a strong financial position. In France, clubs are well managed and don't need to sell.

"In Italy, you have less players now who could strengthen Arsenal than before. And, in England, the market is flat.

"It was unbelievably difficult to get Laurent Koscielny. I'm surprised. For years, we had no money but now we have money we cannot find players to buy."

Koscielny could be handed his first competitive start by Wenger when the Gunners take on Liverpool at Anfield in their opening match of the Barclays Premier League.
